12/30/2023 0 Comments Mafia iii videoSame thing with Assassins Creed, all of them. You go, talk to someone, get a quest, go into some cave, sneak or fight your way in, fight a boss, grab what you came for and leave. In Skyrim you do the same thing OVER AND OVER again yet that game is critically acclaimed. I havent quite seen a game this in depth in growing your own weed and selling it, but this game has it, and I love it! Havent progressed to the end of Faster Baby yet, but I can tell you, most people on the internet say Mafia 3 is repetitive and boring, but don't listen to them. Not only that, but you can grow your own weed and sell it. The Faster Baby DLC straight up starts like a 70s style fast car, running from the cops smashing through crates and blowing up barrels action movie like Starsky and Hutch looking Dukes of Hazzard feeling chaos. While there is still plenty of challenging action bits, the DLC focuses more on a cultic horror investigation and reminds me a bit of Red Dead Redemption 2 and fighting against the Skinner Brothers or Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion's Hack Dirt (IYKYK). Signs of the Times is straight terrifying! It plays more like an investigation game and focuses less on the action side. Bear in mind, I am 51.9 hours in at the time of writing this and still have a ton of content to play through both with Main Story and DLCs (DLCs are better to play before you finish the main story). At this point, I havent played all of them yet, but I have played all of Signs of the Times and I have started Faster Baby. There are also quite a few connections with characters from Mafia 2 which is really cool to see too.Īll of this doesnt even touch on the DLCs. Lincoln is surrounded by a great cast of characters too all with their own backstories and ambitions. Alex Hernandez does a great job bringing Lincoln Clay to life and really making you feel his pain and root for him to succeed. The characters in the game along with the acting is also really good. The first real boss you take down happens in an abandoned racist amusement park, and its super creepy and eerie, which helps to break up the monotony of what you are doing (stealth killing, shooting, hiding in cover). Once you take over the areas, the boss fights are also super fun and pretty unique because the boss fights arent the same. Sure taking over the areas are a go here and kill this person, go here and interrogate this person, go here and break this etc, there is enough in the world to keep the game feeling fun. With all there is to do, plus whats added in the DLC, its never boring to me. Now for the mature folk who can handle things that might be in your face and make you uncomfortable, this game has a lot of content to it. If you cannot handle realistic depictions of the racism that plagued American history, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. This game DOES NOT shy away from racism at all and if hearing the N-word bothers you or seeing racially charged violence and and brutality triggers you, do not play this game. It does such an amazing job capturing the 1960s Southern New Orleans just like the previous Mafia games really capture the vibe of their settings and era. The only difference is that its a fictional New Orleans and set in the 1960s rather than the Victorian Era. Remember, this game came out in 2016 around the same time as Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and the way you take over the city from the Mafia is very reminiscent of AC Syndicate and taking over London from the Templars. However, its not a bad game in itself and it is a product of its time. If you are a fan of the first two Mafia games, this one may not be your speed. Its earned in some ways but unfair in many more. I never leave reviews for games on here, but I feel like Mafia 3 gets a bad rap. (TL/DR, this game is worth your time if you are mature enough to handle aspects of racism in history and understand that it is a game)
