Through these internships the graduates know and refine their areas of expertise, know what to expect in the field, know how to handle a multitude of legal and ethical issues, and can become highly valuable associate level licensures in this profession. Upon graduation, these students not only have a full master’s degree education, but have also built a solid reputation in working with a variety of clients with many different types of mental health issues. Graduate student interns are required to fulfil 600 direct clinical hours under the supervision of a licensed clinical therapist as part of their graduate training. One80’s internship program has become one of the most highly competitive and sought-after internship programs in our area by such universities as NC State, UNC Chapel-Hill and Wake Forest University.Īt the time of a graduate student’s internship start date they have completed most of their required courses and are now adding practical experience to their resume. As Director of Internships, Michael works with prominent local and online universities to recruit the top candidates each semester. ![]() Michael has a passion for teaching and helping intern and practicum students connect the reality of the academic classroom and the art of therapy in the office. Michael knew shortly after becoming licensed himself that he wanted to give back to this field and began taking on intern students shortly after becoming fully licensed in 2016. They last between 1-1 ½ years.Michael Garner, Director of Internships & Clinical Development at One80 Counseling, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Qualified Supervisor for the NC Board of LCMHC and Approved Supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. How long does the internship last? We offer internships & Practicums.Undergo a thorough training of our Electronic Health Record (IMA) database where they will be responsible for completing OMH required clinical documentation such as weekly session progress notes, crisis intervention, annual treatment plans, and all documentation for the clients on their caseload.Work closely with a Case Manager who will assign you case management tasks such as collaborating with other agencies involved with patients and case assignments.Attend and participate in weekly clinical supervision with a Clinical Supervisor monthly staff meetings, monthly groups and ongoing training.Obtain hands-on experience working with a clinical team.Shadow other Therapists as they conduct therapy and intake sessions.Each intern will have a caseload of between 5-12 patients and will conduct weekly psychotherapy 30-minute, 45-minute or 50-minute sessions.What to Expect During the NYPCC Internship If yes, an internship with NYPCC might be right for you!
